Despite being a very small and developing country, Nepal keep attracting thousands and thousands of tourists toward it. There are many reasons to visit Nepal once in a lifetime. These reasons haven’t only attracted tourists, climbers, and trekkers to visit Nepal, but there are also many great and well-known international personalities who have visited Nepal recently or in the past.

Personalities Who Have Visited Nepal

1. Leonardo DiCaprio

Some of you must be knowing this fact while most of you must be wondered to know this fact. One of the Hollywood’s greatest actors of this generation and Oscar winner actor Leonardo DiCaprio has visited Nepal. In 2010, Leonardo DiCaprio visited Nepal for “Save The Tiger” campaign to double the world’s tiger population. During his visit in Nepal, he visited Bardia National Park. It was Leonardo DiCaprio partnership with World Wildlife Fund(WWF) to support Nepal and local communities in doubling the population of wild tigers. A great personality like him visiting Nepal boosted the tourism in Nepal, and his collaboration with WWF and the Government of Nepal helped in the preservation of tigers in Nepal.

2. Morgan Freeman

In December 2018, another Hollywood legend and veteran actor Morgan Freeman visited Nepal. For the shoot of National Geographic’s documentary series “The Story Of God”, he visited different places and experienced different religions, and his visit to Kathmandu, Nepal was a part of his shoot. On his visit to Nepa, he was spotted wearing Daural Surwal-the national dress of Nepal, swung ping in Nepal, take blessings from Living Goddess of Nepal-Kumari, and enjoyed a lot while visiting this culturally riched country.

3. Prince Harry

Not only actors, but the prince of British Royal Family of the United Kingdom had his visit to Nepal in the year 2016. After the devasting earthquake of 2015 in Nepal, in March 2016, Prince Harry had five-days visit to Nepal. He visited sites damaged by the earthquake and met earthquake victims in the camps. Not only these, he even visited earthquake affected villages where he met locals and spent time with them. On his 5-days trip to Nepal, he explored Nepal and itc culture very much. He praised the Nepalese people for what he called their “resolve and resilience” in the wake of the disaster. He visited artisans and apprentices working to restore the royal palace at Patan Durbar Square, which was heavily damaged by the quake. His visit wasn’t normal as visit of other personalities in Nepal. Although he was only on 5-days visit of Nepal, he extended his trip for another 6-days to help, volunteer and work on earthquake relief projects. His visit to Nepal in 2016 must be considered as the most influential and great visit to Nepal by any foreign personality.

4. Shah Rukh Khan

One of the world’s famous, influential actors and personalities, and popularily known as “Baadshah Of Bollywood” has also visited Nepal. He had visited Nepal in March 2015. Though he is a Bollywood actor, he hadn’t come to Nepal for the shoot of any film. He had visited Nepal to promote Kansai Paints Nepal’s ‘U-Can’ initiative. Being the brand ambassador of Nerolac paints, which is manufactured in Nepal by Kansai Nepal Paints. He was on the very short stay in Nepal where he attended that event organized by Nerolac Paints at the Hyatt Hotel.

5. Entire Cast & Crews Of Everest Movie

There are many Hollywood films that are shot in Nepal, and 2015’s one of the best Hollywood movies Everest is one of them. It is a biographical survival adventure film based on the real events of 1996 Mount Everest disaster, and focuses on the survival attempts of two expedition groups, one led by Rob Hell and the another by Scott Fischer. This film has an enemble cast of great and popular actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Martin Henderson and Emily Watson. All of these Hollywood biggies were in Nepal for the shoot of this film in 2014. 6. David Beckham

One of the most popular English footballers David Beckham has also visited Nepal. In November 2017, he visited Nepal to play football as a part of funding campaign for United Nation’s Children Fund(UNICEF). He visited Bhaktapur Durbar Square and played football and tennis with local children of Padma Higher Secondary School. Beckham also drove a safa tempo.

7. Sachin Tendulkar

In November 2019, the Master Blaster of World Cricket and God Of Cricket in India-Sachin Tendulkar has also visited Nepal. He was on a three-day trip of Nepal to raise awarness for the UNICEF Nepal’s Bat for Brain Development campaign. Being an Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF, on his stay in Nepal, he visited the famous Pashupatinath Temple, met Nepal’s women cricket team, met the then PM KP Sharma Oli, and also played a friendly match against Nepali former cricket Binod Das’s team.

8. Mahendra Singh Dhoni

The World Cup winning captain and one of the greatest captains of World Cricket Mahendra Singh Dhoni had also visited Nepal in 2012. He was on a two-day visit of Nepal along with his wife Sakshi. During his visit in Nepal, he was appointed Brand Ambassador of Nepal Cricket, visited Kritipur Cricket Stadium, Pashupatinath Temple, and paid visit to the then President of Nepal Dr. Ram Baran Yadav.

9. Orlando Bloom

Another popular Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom, popularily known for his role Elf Lelolas in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy has visited Nepal in 2008. He was on the four-day trip of Nepal supported by UNICEF. He visited various programme sites in the western districts of Kaski and Chitwan. n Kalika village, Mr. Bloom’s forehead was smeared red with the ‘tika’ with which local women had welcomed him, and he wore garlands of flowers they had given him upon his arrival with the guests from UNICEF.

10. Selena Gomez

One of the world’s popular celebrities and singers Selena Gomez has also visited Nepal in 2014 for UNICEF. Gomez – a recording artist, actress and designer – came to Nepal to bring attention to children in need within the country and across the globe. The visit provided her with an opportunity to witness UNICEF’s work in education, nutrition, health and protection.

Besides these, there are also many international personalities and celebrities who have visited Nepal in the past or recently. Celebrites like Richard Gere, Keanu Reeve, Amitabh Bachchan, Steven Seagal, Jeremy Irons, Bryan Adams, Dev Anand, and the list goes on.
